Sagittarii welcomes junior members from the age of 10 upwards. Please note that individuals under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.

Not at all! We have members from 10 to over 80! Just give it a go!

We shoot Monday – Sunday all year round

10am till dusk

No, all the necessary equipment will be provided during your introductory course. Kit rental is available after joining the club, allowing you to gradually build up your gear.

Recurve, compound, barebow and longbows will be demonstrated during your introductory course, you will have ample time to decide. The only bow we do not permit is the crossbow. We do not recommend that you buy any bow before completing the Introduction to Archery Course.

Archery is an excellent hobby as well as a sport. Whether you compete or not is entirely up to you.

You can shoot as often as you like. The more you practice, the more your archery skills will improve.

No, archery is one of the safest sports in the UK. We have strict rules in place to ensure the safety of all participants and spectators.

Archery is relatively inexpensive compared to some sports. Check out our membership page for the full breakdown on prices. There is a wide range of equipment options to suit your budget.

Please don’t be. We have a diverse membership with members of all ages and genders. We also have male and female coaches available.

Yes! There is a bow to suit everyone.

We are a disabled-friendly club. Please contact us to arrange an assessment with one of our coaches. We will do our best to accommodate you.

You don’t need to be fit.  Archery is all inclusive – we haven’t met anyone who cannot shoot a bow. It is also suited to those with a disability, including partially sighted and blind archers.  Do contact us if you are not sure.

We are the only club in Dorset who support and coach blind archers.

Yes, Sagittarii has supported numerous juniors in using archery for their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

We strongly advise against shooting in your garden. Neither your home insurance nor your Archery GB membership covers shooting in non-designated areas. In the eyes of the law, your arrows become a weapon and it’s a serious offence should there be an accident. Safety is the main priority.

You need to be a current member of Archery GB to shoot at Sagittarii. However, you are welcome to shoot as a visitor. Please contact our Secretary to book in. Visitor fees are £5 for a full day or £3 for half a day.

There is a lot to learn!

If you have done archery before you can be assessed to see how you shoot. Depending on your assessment you may need an Introduction to Archery course or just a refresher course. If you are a returning archer it will depend on how long you have been out of archery but we will be able to sort that out for you. If you have shot at an activity centtre or on holiday you will need to attend a course. 

Although the bow and arrow is essentially a weapon, our club (and all the others in the UK) is strictly run under very stringent safety rules. Thus the sport of archery boasts one of the lowest rates of injury of any sport in the UK. You are much much less likely to be injured participating in archery than, say, football.

Some clubs do this and we have tried, we have asked people on our courses if they think they could learn what we provide in a day or two, and we always get a resounding NO! 

In reality there is a lot to take in and remember on each 2 hour session.  Trying to squeeze this into an 8 hour day would hurt in many ways.  We want you to absorb the details we teach you, allow you to sleep-on-it, and start fresh at each session so as to progress in steps.

We do however run a fast track course which can be completed in 2 weeks instead of 4 weeks. This usually runs during the week in four afternoons and again is over 2 hours per session.
